PCE Instruments – Solar Radiation Detector PCE-SPM 1

The solar radiation detector is a useful tool for solar engineers, architects, and hobby solar installers. It measures the solar power and helps in assessing the composition and design of a photovoltaic system. The light intensity is measured using a monocrystalline silicon solar cell. The solar measuring device has a built-in processor for automatic correction and accurate measurements. The most important parameter, P tot (in W/m²), is displayed directly.

The measured data can be transferred to a PC via the serial interface using the included software. The device is suitable for outdoor use with its weather-resistant plastic housing. It is compact and easy to operate with one hand.

1. Solar – direct measurement on site
The solar measuring device allows direct measurement of energy at a specific location. This can be used to check the efficiency of PV modules or solar thermal systems.

2. Simulation of temperature, power, voltage, and current of PV modules
Note: this feature requires the multimeter we offer.

3. Long-term measurements
The solar measuring device comes with an internal data logger for measuring over extended periods of time.

Solar radiation
The solar radiation detector detects both direct and diffuse solar radiation. Most of the energy reflected from the earth’s surface is in the infrared-visible band of the spectrum as the atmosphere absorbs ultraviolet radiation. Solar radiation varies throughout the year due to the changing angle of light rays.
